Hiding in Plain Sight
Yes, that is me, incognito on Canada Day here in my little town,
Why ever are you dressed like that?
Because I can,
Because, though highly visible, I am hidden in the crowd,
Don’t point fingers at me; you do the same thing.
It’s got nothing to do with the hat, but with the hiding,
We all have chances to publicize our works, but we don’t speak up,
And we don’t speak up because we are thinking, “Why me? Who cares?”
“Maybe the book isn’t as good as I think it is.”
“Just because my Mom likes it …”
So if you can’t speak up, do the next best thing,
Hide in plain sight,
Be somebody people remember
And when you bring your book (and the hat) next time?
Who knows.
