WHAT is a Virtual Conference?

Fall Conference 2020, Writing with Unflinching Boldness is only a few weeks away. Although it may be different this year, it’s going to be great!

As I’m sure you can understand, due to COVID-19 we’ve had to re-imagine what Fall Conference 2020 would look like. So, in order to keep all of our attendees safe, the InScribe Executive Committee has decided on a virtual conference this year. We’ll be bringing you Fall Conference September 25 & 26, 2020 via ZOOM.

Your Fall Conference Committee has been working hard to make this conference as close to the real thing as we can.

There will be workshops to choose from, as well as our keynote speaker, Randal Rauser. All of their topics and bios can be found here

One of the best things about the Fall Conference is the social aspect, chatting with other members. Trust me, there will be lots of opportunities to connect with your fellow writers. We’ll have spaces – “rooms” – for you to go to just to mix and mingle in smaller groups. We’re also planning a Word Café – where you’ll be able to sit at different “tables” to talk about a specific topic.

If you think you’ll miss out on actually being with people, you can choose to host or attend a Huddle. A Huddle is a small group of people getting together physically to experience Fall Conference 2020 together. If this interests you, be sure to mark that on your registration form and you will be contacted separately.

Of course, we can’t invite you to a banquet this year, you’ll have to supply your own. There will be built in time for coffee breaks and meals. Maybe you can order in and have it delivered to your door, so you don’t have to worry about cooking that day.

We also won’t have an Author Mixer at this conference. But if you want to read your work, make sure to check the author’s reading box on the registration form and you will be contacted separately.

Elevator Pitches – where you describe your book(s) in a short blurb, and Blue Pencil – where you get one-on-one feedback on a specific piece of writing, are both still happening, just a little differently. Again, check the relevant box on your registration form and you will be contacted.

Don’t forget to submit something for Fall Contest and/or apply for an Award. Although we won’t have a banquet, we’ll still have an award ceremony. You won’t want to miss it.

Are you feeling a little uneasy about the whole virtual thing? No worries! A Zoom Tutorial has been scheduled for Monday, August 17 at 6 pm MST. Sign up for that and get 45 minutes of step by step instruction. I think you’ll find it’s not as scary as you thought.

As always, there are subsidies available for those who need a little extra help in order to attend. Please make use of a subsidy if you need one.

August 1, 2020, is the Early Bird Deadline. Why not go on over to https://inscribe.org/events/fall-conference/ and register today. Once you’ve registered, you’ll have the opportunity to join a private Fall Conference 2020 Facebook Group where you can get more info and join in on the fun leading up to the conference.

We hope to see lots of you, old faces and new, at our first-ever Virtual Fall Conference. We’re making history here and it’s going to be fantastic.
