Spring WorDshops 2018
Every spring, InScribe helps facilitate several ‘mini-conferences’ across Canada called WorDshops. This year we are offering WorDshops in Caron, SK (complete); Steinbach, MB (complete); Okotoks, AB (May 26); and Dawson Creek, BC (May 12).
2018 Theme: A Reason to Write

Why do you write? Have you discovered your reasons? Bring your inspiration and your questions to explore with other writers. At the Okotoks WorDshop we’re trying something a little different. It’s called “Open Space Technology” and it’s based on the idea that the best part of most conferences is the coffee breaks. What makes coffee breaks so special? It’s the personal conversations, the dialogue, the networking, the encouraging.
‘Open Space Technology’ is perfectly suited as a group discovery process. Rather than decide in advance what attendees need to know, we’re trusting that God will bring the right people with the right ideas that the group needs to consider. That’s one of the “laws” of Open Space: whoever comes is the right people.
Some people are understandably nervous if they’ve never participated in Open Space Technology before. What? No keynote speaker? No workshops to choose in advance? How can this work?
An Open Space conference does have structure. We’ll post a schedule on the wall, with two or three rooms available for each time slot. The key is that we fill the schedule together in our first session. If you have something you’ve been wanting to share with other writers, please come prepared to lead a session. If you have been wondering about something in your writing, please come prepared to post your question as a session.
Or, just show up and see what happens. Please don’t feel obligated to lead a session. Don’t even feel obligated to join any sessions. Perhaps you just need to listen and observe. Perhaps you need one-on-one conversations — there will be lots of room for those. Perhaps you need to spend time actually writing.
We will collect notes from each session and some conversations and publish them at the end of our WorDshop as a record for attendees and something to share with others who couldn’t join us.
Why do you write? If you know your reason, come to Okotoks and tell us about it. If you don’t know your reason, come explore it in Okotoks
