ADDY OBERLIN

Writer

Who is Addy?

Addy writes devotional articles. She also wrote a book about widowhood and taking that step of second marriage in her later years. She started the Swan Valley Christian Writers Guild which meets regularly in the Swan River library. She enjoys reading and encourage others to read by selling Christian books through a catalogue mail order service. Addy finished a writing course and now has a goal to complete a book about her childhood.

Addy came to Manitoba in 1990 and worked at a Bible camp. She married Walter Oberlin in 1995. They now live in Swan River, but for a short time lived on Walter's farm where he still works with his son. Addy enjoys crafts and makes all her greeting cards, mainly using pressed flowers and on special occasions she embroiders them. She volunteers as the Lord leads using her gifts and a wiling heart — "have hymn book, will travel" — at least in her hometown. She participates in the local band and likes being active in her community.

She believes that it is important to continue to be active and hopes to grow old gracefully, writing, keeping busy, and wanting to please her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

When Addy moved from the big city to a Bible Camp in Manitoba almost twenty years ago, she was in awe about the stories that nature was telling her. They were soon called “Addy’s little parables.”

The Ashern paper started publishing her 150-200 words articles and she still sends her articles to them every week. These articles are now also published in the Swan River weekly paper, the Neepawa paper, and every other week in a small paper in St. Rose. Once a month (on special occasions), she sends an article to the Manitoba Co-operator. Some day Addy hopes to put her more than 500 parables into a book.

Before she wrote her book, To Love and to Cherish. . . Again, Addy was looking for advice and help. After 13 years of widowhood, a second marriage was in the making and she could not find answers to her questions about being married again. Five years into this marriage, she decided to write a book about her experiences and the answers she found to some of those questions.

Addy's Life

This craft fair was held in Birch River, a small town north of Swan River, MB, on October 24, 2009. This fair was good exposure for Addy's small business. She sells Christian books by mail order, but always has some on hand to sell at events like this. She made her book To Love and to Cherish … Again, also available at this event.
This is Addy and her dear husband Walter. They live in Swan River, Manitoba, Canada. Their 14th wedding anniversary was Remembrance Day, November 11, 2009.

Addy loves animals. Her biggest fan is ten-year-old Tisha, a Maltese Cross who has a bed in her office. When Addy is writing, Tisha is always there supervising her work!
Two other fans keep Addy company. Ty(ler) is a gift from Tyler, a neighbor's son. Sky was found in a neighbor's yard and so named because of his white feathers with blue and grey markings. Because their opinions are voiced too loudly for Walter's ears, these colorful birds join Tisha in Addy's office and chatter over her shoulder while she is at work.
