Contest etiquette
(top) |
- Make sure the contest is legitimate.
Click here for one place to
check for fraudulent contests.
- Check contest guidelines carefully. All
contests are not the same. Most will disqualify your entry if you do not
follow their rules exactly.
- Send only your best work. Revise, edit,
polish!
- Make sure you enter your work in the
appropriate category.
- Notice if the contest offers “judge’s
comments” because if you don't win, these might be as valuable to you as
a cash prize or trophy because they could help you make your piece
publishable.
- Remember that some contests are for fun
only, so have fun entering.

Writing winners
(top) |
- Contest judges want to see clean, crisp
manuscripts. Submit to a contest the same way you would to an editor.
- Most contests are judged blindly. That
means your name is not on the manuscript, but is on a cover sheet. Read
the rules and do exactly as they say. If the judge sees your ID on your
entry, it will be disqualified.
- A contest is not the place to send a
first draft, although many entries come in looking just like that. Go
over your work. While you may be looking for a critique or the judge's
comments rather than a prize, don't expect the judge to do your editing
for you.
- Write concise. Word counts or limits are
for a reason. If you add footnotes or explanations, they will be
included in the word count as far as most judges are concerned. Far
better to say it succinctly!

InScribe Spring Contest
Past contests were "members only" and held in conjunction
with our Spring WorDshop. At this time we do not have a SW Coordinator, so
no SW and no Spring Contest.
We will resume the Spring Contest when the WorDshop
resumes, or offer contests in other formats.

On-Line Listserv Contest & Winners
(top)
NOTE: The listserv contest is open only to members of InScribe Christian
Writers’ Fellowship. The categories (with a deadline) are announced frequently.
There are no prizes, just the reward of being motivated to enter, and
motivated by the other entries. Contest submissions are judged by listserv
members, and the winners are posted for everyone to enjoy.

FellowScript Short & Silly
Contest (top)
This is an ongoing contest with a new
assignment in most issues of FellowScript. Winners
are published in the next issue and sometimes displayed online. This contest
is open to members who
receive the newsletter. The assignments are a bit wacky, all are short (150 words, including your title, but not your full
name and address)! and the prizes are just as silly as the contest.

FellowScript On-Going Contests (top)
This is also an ongoing contest for members. The rules and all
information are in our newsletter,
FellowScript. This contest requires a small entry fee and the
winner will receive a cash prize based on the number of entries
received. Winners will be published in FellowScript unless the
author declines. To take part, Join InScribe
