American Booksellers Association
Barnes & Noble Book Clubs. Barnes & Noble has launched its online
book clubs which are free. This fall nearly 30 authors will lead
discussions of their books while book club moderators will focus
discussions. The site includes message boards, and users will be able to
create profiles, share lists of favorite books and authors, sign up for
e-mail updates and send messages to other users. "The new Book Clubs are
a natural extension of the thousands of book clubs at Barnes & Noble
stores nationwide," Marie Toulantis, CEO of B&N said in a statement.
"This new online community meets the needs of authors who are eager to
reach as broad an audience as possible, and our customers, who want to
interact with their favorite authors."

2010 DAPHNE DU MAURIER AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN MYSTERY/SUSPENSE |
QUESTION: What do a preacher, a vampire, a DEA agent, an estranged couple, a
gumshoe and a knight in shining armor have in common?
ANSWER: They're the types of characters one might find in any of the 2010 DAPHNE
DU MAURIER AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN MYSTERY/SUSPENSE six subgenres. Sure, you can
choose some other romantic suspense competition, but why would you when The
Daphne caters to Mystery and Romantic Suspense lovers exclusively?
Worried your entry will fall through the cracks? Not very likely. For the
straight mystery or thriller lover, we have Mainstream Mystery/Suspense (of
course, if you want to throw in a few kisses, who are we to argue - we are RWA's
KISS OF DEATH CHAPTER, after all). For bigger books with subplots and romance,
we have Single Title Romantic Mystery/Suspense; then there's Category (series)
for those shorter books where our estranged couple just might get back together.
Have an otherworldly creature to contend with? The Daphne has a Paranormal
Romantic Mystery/Suspense Category; and if you're a Lover of History and
Romantic Suspense, we have you covered there, too, with our Historical Romantic
Mystery/Suspense. So what if you have a strong Inspirational message that ties
in with your murder and mayhem? Then our Inspirational Romantic Mystery/Suspense
category awaits your entry. Sure, there are other romantic suspense contests out
there, but do they cater to BOTH the Unpublished and Published author? The
Daphne does. With four judges per electronic entry for unpublished, and three
judges per novel for our published sector, The Daphne offers, not only a chance
to final, but we offer FEEDBACK.
STILL NOT CONVINCED? Well, how about this? The Daphne doesn't have ONE final
round judge per unpublished entry, but TWO -- an EDITOR and an AGENT.
For full information,
click here and then the Daphne Du Maurier Contest links.
Don't be left out: Entries are capped with a DEADLINE of
March 15, 2010

New Online Market Seeks Submissions |
Darlene Poier and her team are in the process of creating a new online magazine
of short fiction stories. This will be a quarterly magazine made up of
approximately 14 fiction stories. Each published author will receive $150 CAD
per story.
The website is under construction so unfortunately there is no link at this
time. Darlene and team are very excited about this new venture as there’s so
much talent out there that another publication is needed. Personally, Darlene
says she has really enjoyed reading the submissions so far.
the Terms of submission. The only addition to the terms is that the author must
be 18 yrs of age or older.
Thank you very much for any help you can give us as we get this new venture off
the ground.

NEW MARKET FOR YOUR FICTION (news release) |
|
"The written word … it's a powerful thing. You have to be careful with it." This
quote comes from the movie Inkheart where the main character is capable of
bringing stories to life. There are those in real life that have the rare gift
of story telling. Rarer still is the ability to write that story.
If you have a story to tell there is a great new opportunity for you. A new
online magazine dedicated to short fiction stories is currently under
construction. "Pages of Stories" will be a quarterly magazine with a supply of
approximately 14 stories per issue.
My name is Darlene Poier and I'm very excited to be publishing this magazine.
If you are one of those people that have the gift of writing a story, my team
and I would like to hear from you. The story itself can be of almost any genre;
all that we ask is that it be fiction. The inaugural issue is slated to be
available April 15, 2010. It will be available online at
www.pagesofstories.com and
www.pagesofstories.ca
(currently under construction). Our subscribers will be able to download it to
iPods, eBook readers, accessible via email and any other media that comes along.
We also have a Facebook page at facebook.com/Pages Of Stories. If your story is
selected, you'll get a lot of exposure.
Because writing stories takes time and effort you will be compensated if your
story is selected for publication. We will be paying $150 CAD for every story we
publish. At this point in time there won't be a word limit on your story. You as
the author are the best
judge of when your story is complete. We would like you to keep in mind that we
would like each issue to have no more than 60 pages with approximately 14
different stories. However, if it's necessary for the magazine to have more
pages in an issue, then that's what we'll do. The layout will be typical
magazine columns so hopefully that will give you enough space for your story.
If you would like your story included in the first issue please email it to
pagesofstories@shaw.ca (this email
address is only live until April 15/10) along with your full name and general
geographic location (city, province / state, country). The
deadline for submissions for the first issue is March 5, 2010. While we
appreciate every effort and submission to this magazine, only
those authors whose work has been selected will be contacted by Pages of
Stories.
So send us your stories and pass the word along! There's a lot of talent out
there and we'd love to showcase it for you.
Good luck and we hope to hear from you soon!

Cobblestone Publishing is unable to pay writers at present. One of our members
prepared a piece for their Appleseeds Magazine, a project

due to “difficult financial times.” Cobblestone cannot say when ANY writers will
be paid.
Cobblestone includes all these magazines, so be aware that payment isn't
assured if you choose to write for any of these:
